To create a new referral, select “Marketplace” from the toolbar at the top of the Attorney Share platform, which will direct you to the “Marketplace” page.
On the top right-hand side of the Marketplace page, click on the “Create Referral” button.
You’ll be directed to the “Create Referral” page, where you’ll be able to enter details such as name, type and client info.
When you’ve finished creating the new referral, click “Create Referral” at the bottom of the page.
Required Fields
In order to submit a referral to Attorney Share, you will be asked to provide the following info: referral name, referral type, jurisdiction, description, fee, financing source, assigned users, and extra info. Please do not share confidential client info in any of the required fields.
Referral Overview
Providing referral information allows referred attorneys to get to know more about the referral and determine whether it is a fit for their experience and expertise. It also provides a point of contact for getting started with the referral as well as fees and pricing to ensure a smooth, transparent referral process.
- Name: When creating a new referral, you will be asked to provide a “Name.” “Referral name” refers to a short descriptor for the referral in question. We recommend a referral name that is clear and to-the-point, such as “Major trucking accident on the 405 in Orange County, CA” or “Slip and Fall inside a Walmart in Chicago, IL.”
- Type: select the drop-down option in the “Type” field. From there, you will be able to select from a list of various types that is closest to your new referral. If you do not see your referral type, please reach out to support@attorneyshare.com
- Jurisdiction: select the drop-down option in the “Jurisdiction” field. From there, you will be able to select from a list of jurisdictions.
- Description: When creating a new referral, you will be asked to provide a “Description.” This refers to a slightly longer and more detailed explanation of the referral in question. Please do not share any confidential client information in the description.
- Legal Process Stage: Select the drop-down option in the “Legal Process Stage” field. From there, you will be able to select from a list of legal process stages. Choose the stage that closest matches your referral. See more info about process stages here: Referral Legal Process Stages.
Client Information
- First/Last Name: “Client Name” refers to the name of the client. This information is not public and will only be shared with the selected attorney.
- Client Phone: refers to the phone number of the client. This information is not public and will only be shared with the selected attorney.
- Client Email: refers to the email of the client. This information is not public and will only be shared with the selected attorney.
Overview
If needed, you can select which case manager/attorneys in your firm will have permission to act on the referral once it has been created. This user will receive referral update notifications and have the ability to take action like accepting/declining a new client.
Marketplace Visibility
Attorney Share allows you to choose whether you’d like to list your referral publicly (to the Attorney Share Marketplace) or privately (to select attorneys) through our Waterfall Referrals™ system.
- Public: Designating your referral as “Public” allows it to be published on the Attorney Share marketplace where it becomes available for any attorney to inquire about and/or claim.

Exclusive Community Access: Post to selected communities for priority access before the referral is posted publicly on the Marketplace. Please note that any user can POST a case to Exclusive communities, but ONLY user in these communities can take the referral. Designating your referral as " Exclusive Community Access" allows you to:

- Select which community you'd like to send the referral too.
- Select the amount of time the communities have to take the referral before it is automatically sent to the Marketplace!

Waterfall Referrals™: This is only available if your firm allows personal waterfalls. If your firm doesn’t, contact your admin. See My Waterfall Referrals for more information. Designating your referral as “Waterfall Referrals™” allows you to:

- Hand select specific users you’d like to send the referral to. Select the lawyers you’re interested in inviting to the referral, one at a time, in order of preference via Attorney Share’s proprietary Waterfall Referrals™ system.
- Assign the referral to a specific personal or firm level Waterfall. If the first attorney rejects the referral, then it will be offered to the second attorney, then to the third attorney. If all three attorneys reject the referral, it will be opened to the marketplace, if applicable.

Fees & Pricing
- Fee: When you send out a referral, you are able to collect a portion of the fees. The default for the Attorney Share platform is 33% but you can adjust higher or lower depending on the referral. Prospect attorneys also have the ability to negotiate this percentage.
- Financing Source: When you send out a referral, you are able to collect a portion of the referral fees. You will be asked to designate the financing source (E.g. “the Receiving firm”).
Remember that you are solely responsible for adhering to all applicable professional obligations imposed by the professional rules and standards applicable in the jurisdiction(s) in which you are licensed in connection with your use of the marketplace.
Data Room
If there is any useful documentation to provide to prospective attorneys, you can upload them during the creation of a new referral. Prospective attorneys can request access prior to being selected. Once a referral is matched, the selected attorney will automatically receive access to these files and all other attorneys’ access will be revoked. If the referral is a Waterfall Referral, data room access is given as a default.
Extra Information
- Case Number: On the "Create Referral", select the “Case Number” field. Enter the associated case number used in your firm. (E.g. CA - 3595623/04).
- Incident Date: On the "Create Referral" page, select the “Incident Date” field. From there, click on the calendar icon to the right of the field and input the date of the referral incident.
- 2nd Language Required: On the "Create Referral" page, select the drop-down option in the “2nd Language Required” field. From there, you will be able to select from a list of languages. Choose the language that closest matches your referral.
